Combinatorial Sums in the Analysis of a Generalized van der Pol equation

When I visited South Africa in September 1994 (Arnold Knopfmacher: thanks!), I made the acquaintance of Marcia Moremedi. She encountered some sums in her applied-math-papers that I was able to simplify. I did it by hand, but then also with the help of Zeilberger's algorithm.
